Something I just read in my "Dewey" book
"Dr. Charlene Bell... says everyone has a pain thermometer that goes from zero to ten. No one will make a change until they reach ten. Nine won't do it. At nine, you are still afraid. Only ten will move you, and when you're there, you'll know. No one can make that decision for you."
Here's to arriving at ten.

Be brave
I just found something I wrote a long time ago... like... high school long time ago. High school me was pretty wise.
"Be brave. The world is not a fair place, but it's filled with love if you'll only care enough to seek it."

Dustin Hoffman - from his interview in Vanity Fair
He's a cool cat.
Q: What is the quality you most like in a man?
A: Non-threatening.
Q: What is the quality you most like in a woman?
A: Threatening.
Q: Which historical figure do you most identify with?
A: Columbus - if it's true that he knew where he was going, got lost, and found a place that was better.
Q: What is your greatest fear?
A: My belief that saying it makes it happen.
Q: What is your motto?
A: "The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible." - Oscar Wilde

Honesty
My blackberry just told me I'm not in an area that can handle data communication. At least he's honest. I respect that.

Smart Woman
A friend of mine sent this over... Priceless.
11 PEOPLE ON A ROPE
>
> Eleven people were hanging on a rope, under a helicopter.
> 10 men and 1 woman.
> The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they
> decided that ONE had to
> leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall. They
> weren't able to choose
> that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech.
> She said that she would
> voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she
> was used to giving up
> everything for her husband and kids or for men in general,
> and was used to always
> making sacrifices with little in return.
> When she finally finished her speech, all the men started
> clapping .....

Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard
I was alone at the Santa Monica Pier last night. After sunset I wandered around the Third Street Promenade. I love it out here. Makes Greenwich, CT seem very far away. Not sure yet if that's a good thing or a bad thing... :)

From Bob Dylan's autobiography
"... I'd read The Prince and had liked it a lot. Most of what Machiavelli said made sense, but certain things stick out wrong - like when he offers the wisdom that it's better to be feared than loved, it kind of makes you wonder if Machiavelli was thinking big. I know what he meant, but sometimes in life, someone who is loved can inspire more fear than Machiavelli ever dreamed of."
And this is why he is an icon.

Swingers
Sitting at Swingers in Santa Monica, where the diner scene from Knocked Up was filmed. We're sitting in the same booth they were in. Yummy!
