Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy

This is such a magical song. It just became more magical.

Jam Session

No matter how you feel about the quality of the video or the content of the song, you have to admit that it's awesome that music can still happen spontaneously just about anywhere... including underground on a speeding subway car. Long live the art of music and the feelings of community it has the ability to inspire.

Still Standing

I don't normally use my blog to endorse other sites, but I'm going to do it right now. If you haven't seen Greenwich Point Rocks, you're missing out. My friend Joel makes these amazing rock sculptures on the beach in town and I'm inspired by every photo on the site. This one spoke to me very loudly today, and I just wanted to share:

Sometimes things stand where they shouldn't, and sometimes they don't waver (at least not while anyone is looking.) This rock could topple at any moment, just as with so many other things in life. It could. It may. It may not. This rock just might be strong enough to withstand the winds and rain and snow that will ultimately fall onto and all around it. But, most likely, it will fall, and in some strange and truly beautiful way, I think that will be okay, too.

Poison & Wine

This song just stabbed me right through the heart. I know it's been around for awhile, but I never really listened to the words until now. There aren't even that many words to listen to, but the words that are there are beyond poignant.

Music is still the most direct route to my soul.

This song is perfect.

RIP Etta James

I don't know if anyone will ever have this kind of soul again, or if anyone ever did. This was filmed in 1962. I like to imagine videos like this are the reason why YouTube was invented:

And then she does it again, 25 years later, just as soulful... with BB King:

I've said it before and I'll say it again. They DO NOT make music like this anymore. This song cracks your heart in half:

RIP Etta.

Bravo!

Abbot and Costello buy a computer

My dad sent this to me. Made me laugh today :)

This is TOO good! Yes, this IS what they would do if they were still here!
Read on:

You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old to REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this.

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, 'Who's on First?' might have turned out something like this:

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows.. I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT:
Software for Windows?

COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?

ABBOTT:
I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?

ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows..

COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT:
The Word you get when you click the blue 'W'.

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue 'w' if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?

ABBOTT:
Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?

ABBOTT:
Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT:
Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

(A few days later)

ABBOTT:
Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO:
How do I turn my computer off?

ABBOTT: Click on 'START'.............

Brought To You By... Whites???

"The following is brought to you with limited commercial interruption by 'Whites'... exclusively on Hulu."

This actually played before the All In The Family episode I'm watching now, and I can't help but think... really?!!?!?!?!?

Whites, as it turns out, is a restaurant-themed show about chefs. But still... really?! Is no one monitoring this stuff??

Proud To Be Irish

Many things make me proud to be Irish. This, although not one of the most poignant ones, is definitely one of them! I love these two!

DVD Commentary

This is too good not to share :)

Fred Astaire - Watch This

Do yourself a favor and watch this.

Then do yourself another favor and do not attempt to impress me for the rest of the day with anything else.

Nothing can top this.

The Best

This made my whole night. I'm eating pasta with my mom's sauce, and I'm watching George Carlin, and even after a tough day... suddenly life is good. Language is NOT safe for work!
